DownEast Donates $5K Worth of Clothing to The Road Home

DownEast is a longtime friend of The Road Home, a private, non-profit social services agency that assists individuals and families experiencing homelessness in Utah’s Salt Lake County and along the Wasatch Front. We’re excited and humbled to announce our contribution of $5,000 worth of clothing to this very worthwhile organization.

We truly believe in giving back to our community and world, and in lending a helping hand to those in need. We also want to thank YOU, our fans, whose support of our charitable efforts inspires us to do more.

Let’s all work together to make a difference!

Click here to read about our participation last fall in the agency’s Apple Tree Campaign, in which DownEast stores served as drop-off locations for Utah residents to donate new clothes, shoes, school supplies and backpacks for homeless children.

Celebrity Scene: Golden Globes Rundown

I’m sure there are people who actually like to watch the awards part of the Golden Globes, but for me, I just like to see what everyone is wearing! There are always several “hits” and way too many “misses”. Don’t these people have stylists!? Anyway, here is a rundown of what I liked, and also what I didn’t like.

What did you think of these looks? Is there someone’s look you loved the most or that you especially didn’t like?

Tips for Finding the Right Denim for You!

Whether you have a pear, apple, athletic or petite body type, there’s a right pair of denim jeans for you!

Boot Cut. If you have a pear shape, then boot cuts should be your go-to! The slight flare at the bottom helps balance out your beautiful curves. This cut will also work wonders for apple shapes - just stick to a wider flare at the bottom. In fact, boot cuts can look great on basically any body type. Try our new Double Take Jeans or these Overdyed Flare Jeans from Banana Republic.

Skinny. If you have a petite or athletic figure, skinny jeans are for you! To all my fellow petite women: Stick to skinny, straight or slightly flared denim. Also, don’t be afraid to buy jeans that fit perfectly everywhere except for the length - just get them hemmed! If you have an athletic shape, sticking to a skinny jean helps create curves by hugging your ankles and creating an image of shapely legs. (Also, check out this post to see how skinny jeans work with every body type.) Try our Zippy Skinny Jeans (my favorite) or some Legging Jeans from Gap.

Trouser. Those with an apple shape can pull off trouser jeans, and you should! Just make sure they have a flat front and sit at your natural waist like these Vince Stretch Denim Trousers from Nordstrom. Petite women, if you want to try trouser jeans, go for it -  just make sure they have a low waistline and pair them with heels, try these Braided-Trim Trouser Jeans from Old Navy. Athletic figures that want to jump on the trouser bandwagon should look for some with a high waist like Joe’s Jeans from Zappos!

Cropped. Everyone can wear a cropped jean, just make sure you get the right ones for your body type. This look  can be hard for petite women, however, since most cropped denim will make you look shorter. Stick with a straight-leg, fitted pair made of one-wash material- these Hudson Jeans are phenomenal. Pear and apple shapes should stick to a looser legged pair, like these Denim Boyfriend Capris from Old Navy, while athletic shapes should choose a skinny pair like the Denim Capris from Old Navy.

P.S.: My absolute fave DownEast Basics jeans are the Zippy Skinny Jeans! Remember that lots of our jeans come in multiple lengths to help you get the right fit! Also, inside my dresser drawers are a couple of pairs of !iT Jeans. I love the fit and the knee break is in exactly the right spot for my super short legs! (By the way, Nordstrom stopped selling these! URG! So let that be a reminder that when you find the right jeans, don’t be afraid to stock up!)
